11 Design Trends for 2017

Mauve, Terracotta and Florals - Is it 1984?

Must admit, I am feeling a little deja vu. 

Design Trends for 2017:  
In the words of Madonna, "Express Yourself"!

Colors...

1. Mauve/Pink - Mixes well with gray and taupe

             

2. Camel and Taupe -  Rich camel and taupe mixing with grays, moving toward warmer neutrals.

 

3. Dark Green - Was this once referred to as Hunter Green?? Not quite. This these dark greens have a bit more jewel-like shimmer.

 

Finishes...

4. Terracotta - Think matte finishes and earthy (reminiscent of the Southwestern trends of the 80's). As always, I love it paired with charcoal grout.

5. Wood Countertops - Continuing the earthy theme... Beginning to see a movement away from the coldness of stone.

6. Brass - Shiny gold tones continue to grow in popularity. They offer a nice balance to the matte finishes.

7. Floral Patterns - Chintz looks fresh and inviting.

8. More Wallpaper - The popularity of wallpaper continues to grow - there is an entire generation that was not traumatized by flocked wallpaper in every room of their house growing up. 

Use sparsely. It tends to stay fresh and inviting when used in smaller/less used spaces - think powder rooms and entryways.

 

9. Modern and Earthy - A solution for those of you repulsed by the chintz.

10. More Compartmentalized Floor plans - Open floor plans continue to fall out of favor. The trend is moving towards more traditional floor plans. Although, I really believe we will see a hybrid of the two - more clearly designated areas but with wider doorways connecting spaces.

11. Drapes Become More Dramatic: Window treatments are leaving the background. While they may not be auditioning for the lead role, they will definitely be supporting players in the coming year.
