I am the first to admit, I used to snub my nose at Big Box Stores when thinking of design finishes. However, if you are willing to dig and/or put on your creative thinking cap, there are some amazing design solutions out there - high end finishes for budget prices.

Home Depot
These 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" Twenties Diamond Merola Tiles are the perfect mix of modern and historic and they only cost $1.75 each. Check out all of the other fabulous Merola tiles at Home Depot - I promise you will not be disappointed, they are even more gorgeous in person!
Merola Twenties Crest Tile, 7 3/4" x 7 3/4", $2.57 each
If you can't decide between the many amazing patterns, use them all!
Grayson 5" Oil Rubbed Bronze cabinet pulls. These pulls look substantial and have a beautiful varied finish, $5.68 each.
Sconces are one my favorite ways to add interest to any room. The sconce above the open shelves, in the kitchen above, is actually an exterior sconce, Hampton Bay Bronze Lantern, $49.97
Lowe's
The smaller scale white tile backsplash is a Lowe's score when paired with charcoal grout, American Olean Ceramic Tile, $3.28 a square foot.
Note the Outdoor Sconce
Outdoor sconces that are properly scaled are often expensive. However, this retro looking ribbed glass sconce, The Acclaim Lighting 17" high Havana Light, is only $58.00.
IKEA
Hektar Pendants
I LOVE IKEA's Hektar Pendants! The large pendant is 19" high and offers a lot of bang for its $59.99. The smaller pendants measure 10 1/4" high and are $24.99.
A simple light kit from your local hardware store, some chain, and IKEA's 28" NYMO Pendant Shade ($39.99) and voila, a dramatic dining room light for under $65.00.
Look towards the back hall of this dramatic condo, these ALVANGEN pendants are a great cross between modern and farmhouse and only $39.99!
