The sofa, chairs, and tables are in, the pictures have been hung, and the lamps lit.  Now come the details that make a house a home... accessories. Accessories are the little things that define us - books, framed pictures, collections. But how to combine these items to create appealing displays?
Here are a few tips.

1. Mix Elements

This display combines textured shells with slick metal and painted wood as well as books.

2. Vary Heights

The secret weapon in creating varying levels is BOOKS.

3. Alternate Sizes and Shapes

Organic forms mixed with geometric shapes create visually pleasing displays.

4. Texture is Important!

Plants are a great way to introduce texture.

5.  Decor Colors Should Coordinate with the Room and Each Other

Items to create displays with are often hiding in plain site. Look inside kitchen cabinets and china cupboards for bowls and platters to hold rocks gathered by your children or display groupings of plants. Weathered garden decor can come inside to add texture to an arrangement. And, finally, don't forget the BOOKS.
