About

Oh, how I love decorating magazines! I love the big rooms with amazing custom furniture, closets the size of my bedrooms and, of course, the flawlessly groomed children and pets. Try as I might, I don’t live a magazine.
My name is Jackie. I am a mom and a decorator. I live with my husband, son, twin daughters and many cats (it's a long story) on Capitol Hill in Washington DC.

Our home is a 1917 row house. Which if you are unaware is "One of a series of houses often of similar or identical design, situated side by side and joined by common walls".
To be honest, I never envisioned myself living in this type of house - at first row houses reminded me of high school lockers: it took practice to recognize which one was mine.
Not only do they often look alike, they tend to be small and somewhat impractical 2ft. - 3 ft. wide closets, if they have closets at all, with strange floor plans.

Living in a row house has changed my perspective on decorating: practical  trumps beautiful,  rooms with multiple uses work best, build in storage when you can, and be flexible (families grow and change, design should too).
I am inspired by the many creative people I meet and read about in magazines and online. Their ideas often lead to my own decorating/design solutions. Through this blog  I hope to inspire others to stretch their creative wings and make their home their refuge.
